To Glyko

To Glyko is the second adaptation for the theatre of Telemachos Tsardakas’ book “He who ate all his sweets”. Four stories full of love, loneliness, solitude and grief, illustrate winter on Chios, an island of Greece. In Tsardakas’ stories, we experience a different view of life on the island. The idyllic image of living by the sea is torn apart from those stories: lonely people walking around what remains from the summer season, waiting for tourists to put their lives back to track, searching for purpose, love and fulfilment. During the play, four characters share their stories over a table of desserts, while they manage to accomplish what they seem to have been looking for: compassion, company and love. They raise their glasses and toast to this meeting and all others keystones of their life, as they share their perception of what love, life and family is. Dreams blend with reality, phantasies are created in order to endure everyday life’s routine in search of personal and collective identity.
